Wing Commander John Freeborn first served with No 74 ‘Tiger’ Squadron seeing action over Dunkirk and later in the Battle of Britain - where he flew more operational hours than another other pilot during that time. Flying Spitfires throughout the Battle of Britain, John became an ‘Ace’.
Throughout his career he served with No 74 Squadron, 57 OTU, 601 and 118 Squadron and later became a Wing Commander of the 286 Italian Wing.
Freeborn was awarded the DFC & Bar before retiring from the RAF in 1946.
