Group Captain Billy Drake served with No 1 Squadron during the Battle of France flying Hurricanes. During this time he claimed a Bf 109, a He 111 and a Do17 and probably others before being shot down by Bf 110s and forced to bale out of his aircraft. Later in 1940, Billy became a flying instructor and then returned to operations with 213 Squadron at Tangmere. Throughout his career he served with No 1 Squadron, 421 Flight, 53 OTU, 128, 112, 20 Wing.
Billy was awarded the following: DFC & BAR, DSO, DFC (US) before retiring from the RAF in 1963.
